Before planning our production, we decided to conduct a survey on what you typically see on an Indie music video. Getting a large amount of responses, I have summarized the results as it is easier to analyse.

Here are the results of the survey which I have combined and put on charts:

From looking at the results of the survey, we can clearly see that the majority of the audience are female than male audience. This gives us an idea of what our music video would intentionally have such as an artsy image of the artist.

Adding to this, we learnt that the age range turned out to be similar to what we intended on targeting our audience; this tells us that it will fit perfectly when deciding on the concept and theme. Indie music is popular among the youth generation which gives an idea that our chosen song could possibly relate to the audience. It covers the topic of growing up and the pain it brings along; It's a scream of pain directed to all those adults who think that young people have nothing to worry about and don't take youngsters seriously. Therefore, our target audience will find an interest in the genre and song. More than one location had the most response than one location. Having more than one location in our music video will be beneficial as most of the audience prefer that.

Costume and clothing wise, we are going to go for a plain, casual look throughout our music video. For instance. we will make sure that the outfits are dark, non-branded and basic in order to follow a typical Indie music video. Unlike in pop music videos, they would mostly wear glamourous and bright clothing, and iconic styles whereas in an Indie music video, you would usually see dark colours. Considering an Indie outfit style such as chokers, hats, etc. we made sure that the artist wears something non-branded and something simple such as a dark, navy blue jumper and black jeans; this also applies to the characters.

In our music video, including all the elements in a great range such as lip-synching, camera shots and props can help us get a better looking production as the target audience would want to see an equal amount of them.

HOWEVER!

We learnt that most of the audience prefer that there were no narrative in the music video. This is because, most music videos would have their narrative with the typical "love story" that is shown a lot of times which is seen as "boring". As a group, we made sure that we spread out both narrative and performance scenes in order to make the music video more entertaining and exciting to watch. Lastly, the majority of the audience responded to street, studio or stadium what they would most likely want to see the location of the music video. Therefore, we challenged ourselves by combining the three.
